Let's Start a Project ...

Explore the Rainbow

Join our exploration of the rainbow for 2023. We had a blast in 2022, pairing a solid rainbow color with a variegated, but we are leaning into ease in 2023, so our Explore the Rainbow is a lot less intensive. We are featuring one color per month, working our way through the rainbow by showcasing a solid one month, and a bespeckled version of that solid the next. We are using our popular DK and are giving you three different options for making.

Projects include:

  • a featured one-skein pattern for the month

  • the knit blanket* instructions (easy-breezy blanket with a bit of yummy texture)

  • the crocheted blanket* instructions (easy-breezy granny stripe blanket)

*The blanket patterns will measure approximately 60" x 60" wide when finished.

Learn to Knit or Crochet

Want to learn to knit or crochet? A Good Yarn's Jenny and Elizabeth have a new class for June. Register yourself or a friend — cost is $50 and includes 3 hours of instructions, yarn and needles/hooks.

Dates for class:

  • June 17: 1:00–3:00

  • June 24: 1:00–2:00

January

January

January features a sock pattern in DK for this lovely skein, Liberally Bleeding Heart. Pattern is free with LBH yarn purchase!

February

February

We're sticking to the beginning of the rainbow for February's Explore the Rainbow kit. Bespeckled Raspberry is the sister color to January's Liberally Bleeding Heart. The featured pattern for this month is Shannon's East Portland hat, a fun and fast pattern that is so super textured and squishy (our fave hat combo, to be honest). We didn't do this for our sample, but this hat is even cuter with a pom-pom on top (most hats are, if you ask us).

March

March

March's Explore the Rainbow is Glazed Carrot! We are loving this orange. The free with purchase pattern is Jazz Age Mitts knit and modeled above by Elizabeth Ash. Keep following us to see some progress pics of the cool rainbow blankets people are making as well.

April

April

April: Enjoy this tangerine dream of a combination, friends! A fun and quick DK sock pattern paired with our delicious Bespeckled Tangerine will keep your needles and tootsies happy this Spring, through any and all weather Mother Nature decides to throw at us: rain, sleet, hail, or snow. Even sunshine. Please let there be sunshine.

May

May

May: It’s the fifth month of the year (what!?!?), which means we are leaving the world of reds, pinks, and oranges and heading to yellow-ville with Dirty Bird in DK. We’ve paired a simple but effective lace cowl, Stumptown Cowl, with this solid color, for a project perfect for this very transitional time of year.

Granny Square Clinic

What can you do with a granny square?

Well … a lot more beyond a baby blanket! We will have plenty of ideas available at our clinic and hope to get you started toward a fun, new project!

You are invited to A Good Yarn at CoffeeTree Books to join us for our upcoming Granny Square Clinic. The clinic will be held on Saturday, July 15 at 1:00 p.m. — the cost is $20. Register and pay online before day of clinic. Spaces are limited.

You will need to know basic crochet stitches: how to make a chain, slip stitch, double crochet, etc. We will work on a basic granny square pattern and show a couple of fun granny square variations.

Bring your own yarn and crochet hook or Elizabeth and Jenny can help you choose yarn and a hook from the shop. There will be bundles available for purchase.
